Leslie Lewis et Gérard Hagen "Bonjour de Paris" 10 Mars 2019

Bonjour de Paris ...

Chers Amis,

We are both back in Paris after spending a few days in Bordeaux with Peter and Nicole Giron.  There is a "fast" train that goes from Paris to Bordeaux in two hours (normally the trip by car is around five hours) so it is an easy thing to use Bordeaux as a get away location. The four of us spent one day exploring the southern Atlantic coastal area of France. We made the two hour drive to Biarritz and checked out a few of the coastal towns near the border with Spain. We were very taken with Saint-Jean-de-Luz. https://www.saint-jean-de-luz.com/en/ Even though it was a rainy day the beach area was beautiful. The old town area is a series of narrow streets, pedestrian only, that is filled with restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Almost immediately Leslie and I started to dream of how we could make things work for us professionally with Saint-Jean-de-Luz as our home base. We both miss the ocean and fondly remember the years we lived in Laguna Beach so finding a way to get back to the sea is never far from our minds. The rest of our time was spent relaxing, eating and enjoying some down time with friends. Leslie, Peter and I even managed to get in a rehearsal on some new material that we will play this week on our gigs at Chez Papa Jazz Club. The day after Leslie and I arrived home in Paris she was on a train for an overnight trip to Sens to perform with Philippe Martel's trio. Now she is back and we will be home for almost six weeks until the last half of April when we go out again for a few weeks to do a concert in Grenoble followed by a trip to Marseille, the departure city for the jazz cruise. We are back in Paris after the first week of May.

Leslie informs me that she needs a new suitcase.  Apparently the overnight to Sens was a bridge too far for "red" (my name for her suitcase). Since "red" is about to be retired, it seems like we should have some acknowledgement of the service that "red" provided.  Numerous trips back to L.A. and New York, Asia, several trips to Africa, and across western and eastern Europe. I am sure I'm forgetting some locations but the point is that as far as luggage goes, it was a workhorse. My bag, "blue" is a littler younger than "red" so it still has some miles to go.

We are both healthy again and surviving the gloom of another winter as we await the one day transition from winter to summer that seems to be the way things go here. I shouldn't complain because we did have a few gorgeous weeks in February when the temps were in the low 60's and the sun was out, for the most part. But if things go as normal we will have overcast and rain with mild temps until one glorious June day when all of the sudden flip flops and shorts are in order and sweaters can get packed away. That is the day we stumble outside onto our now sunny street and shed our coats, scarves, sweaters and gloves. We will be rubbing our eyes because we aren't used to the sun and thus we will have  begun the process of becoming human again!
