"Leslie Lewis et Gérard Hagen" 2 October 2018 Bonjour de Paris

Bonjour de Paris ...

Chers Amis,

We have been enjoying a few weeks in our own home getting back into a routine of gigs in town and the start of my fall classes at the Paris College of Music. I am teaching 1st year jazz piano, 2nd year jazz repertoire and two sections of jazz history. And so it begins...
Next week Leslie is making a quick overnight trip to Capbreton, FR for a concert with Philippe Duchemin's trio. Meanwhile we are looking forward to my sister's visit to Paris later this week. We are wanting to check out the Picasso Blue and Pink exhibit at Musée D'Orsay, along with the many other things we'd like her to see and do while she is in Paris. Perhaps an evening of bowling with the "gutter balz", (my sister does have a sense of humor and a decent amount of patience).
In September we enjoyed an evening with friends cruising along the Seine river.  There was dinner, and a show, followed by dancing and plenty of champagne, wine and other good things. Here are are some photos of the event.
Well it took almost two years but I did finally get a concert booked for the piano trio that I would like to get off of the ground here in Paris. We are working on November 23rd at a small jazz club here called Bab-ilo. Leslie will be working in Geneva that weekend so the timing is good for me to have this gig.

The first week in December we will be working with Christophe (bass) and Philippe (drums) Le Van in Annecy and Lyon. They live in the south of France, so when we work down there sometimes we get lucky enough to use them. The last time we worked together was the jazz festival in Annecy last August.

In January we are going to Minsk, Belarus. Yes you read that correctly, in January... we are going to be in Belarus... Minsk to be exact.  Originally they invited us for the spring, but for reasons unknown, we are going at the height of winter.  But all is not lost because in April and May we are on a jazz cruise on the Mediterranean sea. The dates match perfectly with the two week spring break from classes at the college. The cruise includes stops in Italy, Malta and the Greek Islands. There will be forty some musicians on the cruise so who knows what goes on there.  In Belarus we are working with a local rhythm section so I guess I could say the same thing, who knows what goes on there?  Stay tuned!
